Five Star Daycare in Ohio Teaches Kids Gratitude
As a five-star daycare in Ohio, Little Buckeye Learning Center takes our education responsibility very seriously. We take advantage of every opportunity to provide the highest quality education in a warm, loving way – for our preschool and afterschool care children.
As the holiday season approaches, it’s the perfect time to instill a sense of gratitude in our little ones. Teaching toddlers about gratitude helps them develop empathy, understand the value of kindness, and appreciate the world around them.
In this blog we give some simple tips for parents to effectively nurture this important value at home.
Model Gratitude
Children learn by observing the adults around them. Make a habit of expressing gratitude in your daily life. Phrases like “Thank you for your help” or “I’m so grateful for this yummy meal” show your child how gratitude can be expressed in various situations.
Create a Thankfulness Routine
Incorporate discussions of gratitude into your family routine, especially during mealtimes. Take turns sharing things you are thankful for that day. Encourage your child to participate. Even a simple thing, such as being grateful for a favorite toy or a sunny day, builds an attitude of gratitude.
Use Visual Reminders
Create a thankfulness chart. The chart can feature drawings or photos representing things your child is grateful for. Be sure to updated it regularly.
Engage in Acts of Kindness
Encourage your child to participate in simple acts of kindness. This could be as easy as helping to prepare food to share with neighbors or learning to give compliments.
Explain the impact of these actions and the joy that comes from giving to others. When children understand how their actions can brighten someone else’s day, it reinforces the importance of gratitude while also nurturing their sense of community.
